Default Associated Low Tension Mag

I have a Associated four bolt low tension mag that I need to know the correct procedure to check it.It will not run the engine but when I put a volt meter on it while the engine is running off a battery and coil it reads about 1.5 volts DC the best I can tell. Thanks for any info Benny

Benny - 1st put your meter on A.C. and check it. With a flip of the gear by hand you need from 6 to 12 VAC. You can also hook up a 6 volt flash light bulb to it to test. With a flip of the gear you should get a bright flash from the bulb. If not take it apart and give it a good cleaning and check for lose connections. Ted Brookover shared this info with me long ago and I use it all the time. Good luck!! Shane

I have an Associated and it won't run when timed like it's supposed to with the buttons on the backof the mag. I had to try changing it one tooth at a time from the "correct" setting till it ran. I wound up off two teeth on the mag, your mileage may vary. Bob

Thanks all for the replies.I did a search and found where I had posted the same question 1 1/2 years ago when I first got the engine but being old and senile I forgot about it.I finally got around to getting the engine running and if I can get the mag working I will be done. Thanks all and this has to be the most knowlegable bunch of folks I have ever dealt with and thanks Harry for putting this site together and it is about time for my yearly dues. Benny
