Default Igniter question.

How does one know that an igniter is firing? Other than that engine is running.

A sparkplug system can be tested by pulling the wire and close grounding. Turn the crank, get a spark, system good. But how can a simular test be preformed with an igniter with out removing it from the engine and running a ground wire for the test. I'm sure there is a simple answer, this is my first igniter engine.
TIA

A simple way to see if there is a circuit when the points are closed is to disconnect a battery lead and then hold the ignter points closed. Strike the battery terminal with the disconnected wire and see if it sparks.

Thanks. That makes timming a little more difficult but I think I can overcome if I at least know that there is a spark at some point.
