Question Planet Jr. Question

Can anyone give me any info on the planet Jr. walk behind tractor? First off, Who made them? What years were they made? and what engines did they have on them?

I have a chance to buy one, the asking price is 100.00. Not sure of the model, It comes with a sickle bar. thats all I know right now. Is that a fair price?

How do they differ from the david bradley?

Any Info will be appreciated.

Planet Jr. tractors were made by The S.L. Allen Co. There were many different models that used many different makes of engines. I have seen them with Briggs, Clinton, and Toro engines. I believe they built the tractors from the 30's into the 60's maybe.

I have an original Planet Jr...with many accessories(plows, harrows, sickle bar mower)...I also have the original manuals...These Manual Tractors were made in the early 20's and up until the end of WWII....Mine still runs great and can be fitted with a waste-oil dripper to leak oil on the muffler to send up a smoke screen to ward off bugs...These units have brought $5000.00 plus on Ebay...

On the other end of the size scale I have a Tuffy which is the smallest they made. B&S 5s engine, solid rubber tires overall weight of about 60lbs +/-
They bring $70-150, tractor only un-restored depending on condition at shows in this area.

Who in their right mind would pay $5000 plus for a Planet Jr tractor??? I find that hard to believe.

I'm headed to an auction that will be selling a Planet Jr and a Standard Twin. Look for a report on what these & other interesting items go for...
Auction is the first one listed in the ads of the Dec/Jan '07 GEM - Twillman estate in Marthasville Mo.

S.L. Allen philedelphia Pennsylvania is where they were made. they are completely different than a david bradley, If it is the model with pnuematic tires and the engine is free and the tractor is in decent shape it sounds like a deal to me, Brian
