Default County public nuisance ordinance

I have been busy at work and getting farming done and was surprised to read in the local paper that my county commission had passed a public nuisance ordinance.

The paper mentioned cleaning up junk cars and equipment. I have some stuff outside and do have some parts cars out in the grove.

I went to the courthouse and picked up a copy of the ordinance. I was able to sleep again after reading the last line of the abandoned property section.

I'd not become too confident. All you need is some busybody, and a village idiot (county employee) and the burden will be on you to prove it's an antique. Their argument will be "if it's an antique why wasn't it cared for properly".

Who gets to decide if its a restorable antique? I would make sure and keep the area mowed. If the area is zoned agricultural I think any farm equipment is exempt? BobRR

At least the term antique is in the ordinance and someone that wrote the ordinace is aware that there is value in old items.

It may help that a retired JD dealer was on the board until the last election, he did not seek relection due to health reasons, sold a Waterloo Boy tractor for good money a few years ago. He knows there is value in an old tractor.

It could be my second cousin, who is the current county attorney, was thinking of me when he wrote the ordinance. I need to thank him.
