Default Have patience (Generac)

A friend asked me to see if I could get a generator running for him,so I said I'd see what it would take. Turns out finding any information on this this is turning out to be more work than I thought. Here's what information I could find on this thing.
Sears 1000 alternator (yes thats right) alternator
Model #580.3149
serial number 84755
Talking to sears was like pulling teeth, they have no records of this model.
On the side of the engine crank cover it says CLINTON ENGINE CORP. MAQUOKETA,IOWA. The only numbers that I found that i thought might be usefull were on a plate located on the cooling fins and they read as follows.
MOD 500-0300-047 SER 60502596.
The engine feels like it has compression, but needs a new float bowl and carb rebuild kit just to get it started. I'm not sure if this is worth even fooling around with, but I hate just giving up. Not even sure that if I get it started that the alternator even works, but like I said,I hate to just give up. If anyone could direct me on where to get parts in michigan for this thing,it would be muchly appreciated.

Try searching for the model number (580.3149) at www3.sears.com, you might find a parts list.

A couple of Harry's advertisers sell Clinton parts. Look on the carb to see if it says "Carter N" on it anywhere. If it does then you're in luck, kits are still available for that carb. Kits for other carbs are available but the Carter N kits are the easiest to find.

Along with anything else you do, you'll want to file and reset the points and maybe replace the condenser.

Check your model number, you may have missed a couple of numbers at the end.

According to the Sears Supplier list, a 580.XXXX is from Generac Corp. This probably won't help much since if you take a look at the Generator board on this site, this company has been discussed at length about their lack of customer service and information.

Unhappy Re: Have patience (Generac)

I also am having problems finding information on a Generac portable generator s4002.Mod#8973 0 ser#854334.If I can find the right voltage regulator board I will buy it,but I would be more interested in a schematic of this board so I can build my own HEAVY DUTY version of it.The board is shown on some schematics but there is no parts breakdown of the board itself. The board in my unit is filled with some kind of epoxy to prevent one from repairing it themselves.Any help or info would be appreciated.TNX ALL,Vic

Realkeifer: The Clinton engine model and type 500 0300-047 is a 2 cycle, 5/8" Dia. keyway 2 3/4 HP. 2 Cycle , full float carburator. Horizontal shaft Engine.
The 500 (even Number) indicates Horizontal shaft, the 0 indicates Recoil Starter, the 3 indicates Flange Mounting Ball or Roller Brg., The next 0 indicates Without PTO, the next 0 indicates 1962 First year of Release and Production, The 47 indicates model variation. Your Engine must have been made after 1962 as my parts book only goes to variation 18 and is of May 1962 origin. The carb. PN is 39-783-5, Bowl 25-41-5, Carb. repair kit 149-595. Hope this helps....roeb

RealKeifer: Checked my supply of Clinton parts and could not find any you needed. You can try the following Jim Freshman jpfreshman@net.zero.net Barry Peterson peterson@tbhnet.net, or maybe your best bet Fill Mayberry 563-652-2411 who bought out what was left of the Clinton Stock. You can also try Clinton Engine products, P. O. Box 860, Maquoketa, IA Hope this helps: roeb

realkeifer,
Did you ever get any parts for the generator? I have two of these motors now and some spares if you need them.
