Default Fairbanks Diesel triple-play!

I went to a neighboring town with a friend to look at an auction this morning.
We drove down an alley when I saw an open door on the city shop.
I yelled at Joe to back up and sure enough there were engines inside!
We had a short little tour, no photos yet, but let me tell you what they are.
3 Fairbanks Morse Diesels:
Upright single 1914 VA 40HP 300RPM Stationary
Upright twin 1922 32E12 120 HP 360 RPM
Upright triple 1933 32E12 180 HP 360 RPM #884016

Data is from tags except the years which is what the loving caretaker told me. He fires them up a few times a year just to keep them in shape. The DEQ tried to shut him down on emissions, but he prevailed on a historical note.

I'll try to get photos sometime and post.
Please correct me if I am wrong or add any interesting stuff on these guys.
It was a fun surprise to see something so old and so nice.
Kevin

That reminds me of a time back in the late fifties when our work crew happened to discover the municipal light plant at Beresford, South Dakota. There was a room full of engine-generator sets all slicked up and pretty. I was a young-'un back then so didn't even think to read the nameplates. I'm guessing they were F-M units similar in size to what you saw, Kevin.

Of course, by that era the town was connected to the grid and only kept the units in a stanby status.

I've often wondered if the plant is still there, or, if the units were scrapped. Is there anyone from Lincoln or Union County who would know?

Regards,

Orrin
