Default Park size Toro mowers

Does anyone know if their are any of the old Park size Toro self propelled mowers still out their. They had a horizontal B&S engine on them and were usually 8-10 hp. They had a little chair on a two wheel cart that the operator rode on. The city parks used them throughtout the sixties. I would like to find one if at all possible... thanks and thank you Harry!

I have a couple of the WirlWind mowers, which I was told later became Toro. They look like what you describe. I was also told that Omaha used around a hundred of them to mow their properties. The deck is 3/16 or 1/4" plate and takes two men to push it if the engine doesn't run. They are heavy duty!

Thanks for the replys, Jim, you may have what Iam looking for. These mowers were red in color, had a tan colored B&S engine, may have been rope start, 28-36 inches wide, two tires approx. 10-12 inches tall in the rear, two smaller tires 6-8 inches tall in front, and two long handles with throttle ect. Then the operator sat on a little two wheel seat which the mower pulled. I just thought they were Toros maybe Whirlwind is, what Iam looking for. Also I think that perhaps they had a little gear box, they might have had a transmission. Would you have any pics? and are they for sale by any chance?
J.H. Thanks for your reply but Iam looking for a one blade type mower, not a reel as you have pictures of.
Thanks again
Bob

Talking Re: Park size Toro mowers

I have one that is green and one that is red. I may have a third (I don't remember). They are 350 miles away at my Dad's place, so I will have to get a picture sometime. I restored the green one as a 4H project when I was in high school, a little over 20 years ago. They had something close to 4.80 x 7" tires on the back, which are impossible to find. They had a flat belt drive for the mower blad and a v-belt to a 90 degree gearbox. Then it had a direction-reverser clutch on the chain drive to the axles. I never had the sulky, but it did have the hitch. I used the green one for a few years to mow our yard and a church's ground. I only had the one, and my Dad found one or two more since then. I guess for the right offer, they might be for sale.

Jim,
I think you have what Iam looking for, the one you found on the net looks very much like what Iam looking for. When you get time and over to where you have yours stored, take some pics if you would. Id like to see what you have. Any idea what they might be worth? If it came to a sale I want you and Harry to know we need to pay him. After all that is how Ive found you and I really want to support this site...
thanks Robert.

A friend of mine just bought one today. He gave $150 for it. It is a toro and we mowed with it. It cuts nice. It too has the B&S engine.

That photo with the sulky attached is a 32-42 in Whirlwind and was mfgd by Toro and was a "widow maker" if you had to walk behind it all day..My now deceased brother in law had one that almost killed me on a couple occasions back in the mid 60's! It had a 12 hp Wisconsin engine on it which was taller than the Briggs on the Locke's in his business..
He wouldn't use a sulky nor allow his workers too use one, claimed he wasn't paying them to sit down ! When he passed his kids piled it and three 72 in Locke reel mowers, three or four 22in rotery',a couple back pack blowers and 1 big push blower, out on the curb and told the Boro St Dept to pick them up! I saw the 5yd dump truck loaded and sitting in the yard waiting for one of the Recycle drivers to drive the truck down to the junk yard, I should have crawled up there and liberated a couple of those Briggs and that big Red Wisconsin but they were all tangeled and mangled from being hoisted up 10-12ft in the air and dumped into the truck bed.
