timing John Deere Mag


I am working on a 1 1/2 hp John Deere and I would like to check the timing of the mag . I can see a...

Default timing John Deere Mag

I am working on a 1 1/2 hp John Deere and I would like to check the timing of the mag . I can see a mark on the mag gear , but no other marks . What do I line this up with .

Dale....the timing mark is there but they can be a real "booger" to see. If I recall right they are located just under the gear face on the radius of the gear. But you can time it using the push pins located on the mag. Roll the engine over in the correct direction just till the ignitor snaps. (note which way the mag gear rotates while doing this....I believe its to the left or CCW) The front of the mag has 2 push pins....a L for Left or CCW and a R for Right or CW. Push in on the pin that corresponds to your gear movement and rotate the mag gear untill you feel the pin drop in its detent. Holding this pin in assemble the mag......warren
