Default Jay Leno on his Doble Steam Car

This is an article by Jay Leno describing his steam driven Doble auto and comparing it a bit to the Stanley Steamer. This is from May 2003.

Want 1000 ft./lbs. of torque in a car that can pass California's current smog regulations? Looks like something 80 years old is the the only choice.

Default Re: Jay Leno on his Doble Steam Car

It really isn't fair to compare the Doble with the Stanley...the Stanleys were trying to build a car more for the growing more-or-less middle class of the day (ordinary people sure couldn't afford a car, until Henry upset the applecart) while the Dobles, as Leno says, were basically hand-built, which even then made it a car for the economic aristocracy. But, as he says, they're marvellous machines, practically works of engineering art.
