Installing brake box in 95 chevy silverado

I am trying to install a trailer brake controller in a 95 chevy half ton and can't find a good spot to tap into the brake switch wire. Is there anyone here that has done this on this year and model? I have googled everthing I can think of on the subject, all I find is for 2000 models and on.

Hi: The stop light switch is under the dash mounted on the brake pedal mount. Use a test light to find the hot wire and the work wire. tap into the work wire. ( it will be hot when you push on the pedal.) Tom

Looking at a 1994 service manual it shows the stoplight switch wire is purple. look for the wire by removing the dash panel just below the steering column.

G'Day,
when i fit a brake unit thats to hard to get the stoplight switch wire i hook it up to the lume in the door pillars coz your already in there to run the brake to the rear of the vehicle in any case,some of the the modern cars you nearly have to destroy to get to the stoplight switch.

I put an electronic brake controller in my 95 scottsdale and had to find the harness above the steering coloumn with several white wires in it then single out the switched wire worst part of the instalation.

I know where the switch is, it's burried real nice above the brake pedal hanger. Taking the lower filler panel off does nothing to expose the wires for the brake light switch. Also the SIR wiring is hooked to the brake circuit so if you probe the wrong wire "POP" and then it is an expensive trip to the dealer for a new air bag. I was hoping some one had done this in a 95 because it is the hardest part of the install. The chilton manual shows everything but where the brake wire location is. I will post when I find where the wire is to tap into. Thanks for the help so far.

Go to Bulldog security's web site and look up the wiring for your truck to install a remote starter. It has to hook into the brake circuit also and they usually give a good description of the harnesses.
