I'm still waiting to here my first 92 run.I've cleaned points and magnets & have what I believe is a good spark.I grounded the plug to the motor & it sparks strong while turning.Compression sounds good.I've cleaned out carbon in ports.I've also checked to make sure I can blow thru the brass pickup in the tank.I can hear what sounds like a check ball rattling when I shake the carb.I also made new gaskets. When I put a few drops of gas in the plug hole,it will run for just a few seconds sometimes. It's done this 5 or 6 times.I don't know what else to try & I'm starting to think I'm over my head. Thanks for any help since no one local to me has ever heard of a Maytag gas engine. Mark

Mark, check out this website, you might find some help there. Good luck, Maytags can be frustrating.

Mark,
From your your description of your Maytag problem, fuel is not getting to cylinder from the fuel tank. There is another check valve (air) within the carburetor housing. The following site has a picture of a disassembled carburetor showing where the parts go. http://www.oldengine.org/members/all.../Maytag05.html Hope this helps. Francis |

Mark,
Here some more sites showing a cut away view of the Maytag 92 Carburetor. http://www.oldengine.org/members/allen/cut1.jpg http://www.oldengine.org/members/allen/cut2.jpg http://www.oldengine.org/members/allen/cut3.jpg http://www.oldengine.org/members/allen/cut4.jpg Francis |

Try holding your hand over the intake and kick it over to see if it draws fuel into the cylinder. That needle valve only needs about a 1/4 turn open to run.

Check cylinder gasket-make sure you cut gasket correctly-there is a port that lets the gas into the cylinder-maybe its blocked by the gasket.Ive done that before!

Rebuild the carb. Unscrew the needle valve and completely flush with carb cleaner. also, the air valve may be stuck.
Check Harrys ads for Maytag vendors. IIRC you can trade in your carburetor for a re-built one guaranteed to work. Simpson Motors, PO Box 211, Bluffton, OH 45817 may be helpful. |
