Default Maytag 92, help appreciated!

Acquired an older restored 92 and after cleaning out the pickup tube I got it running. It has been sitting for 5-6 years. It had an occasional miss, then had like a double fire and picked back up. I ran it for a few minutes, stopped and restarted. After the about three minuted it acted like it was running out of gas and quite. Now I can't get it to even fire, even with a few drops of gas thru the sparkplug hole. The spark plug is sparking when pulled out of hole, and the compression seems like usual when kicking it over. Anyone have experience/thoughts? Thanks.

1) try a new plug - the new gasolines short the plug, if it gets wet with fuel. 2) try removingn the fuel fill plug, and try to start. if it runs, the tank vent is plugged. 3) if varnished fuel is in tank, remove it, and clean tank with carb cleaner, as well as the carb and pick-up as well. the varnish in the tank will migrate with the fresh fuel, and gum up the works.
