Default Wico Magneto date?

What year(s) did Wico switch from the oval identification tag to a rectangular one? Also, can you date the year of manufacture by the serial number? The one I'm interested in dating is an EK 35418. Thanks for help in advance, Greg

I've been told a couple different times that Wico s/n's had a number code in them that dated the magneto, and even coded the original enginbe on which it was installed. Does anyone know about this?

Chuck:

Looking at the many owners that Wico has been through over the years, I'd be surprised if that were true, particularly for the later years, but would also be very interested to have details to add to the opther magneto information that we have on our website.

Nothing amongst the master service catalogues that we have points to any firm method of ID, but I would have to go through again and confirm that. I have not seen anything within the manuals that would give a lead on how it was done.

Regards,

Peter
