Default Maytag model 19 update

Well guys, I have the engine torn down, everthing came apart easy, the piston was no problem after soaking for a while, and using the hyd method. The only thing that has me stumped is the removal of the starter clutch body, it looks like it has a set screw in on side and a pin sticking out the other side. But the set screw wont turn, and I dont want to strip it out! Now here is the main thing I need to decide... If it is a model 19, sould I worry about the exact paint color, and using all the original hardware? I had the thought of using chrome or perhaps stainless bolts, polishing the flywheel, using the older black and yellow plug wire that you can buy in bulk to dress it up a little, or should it go back together exactly as it was built????? You guys help me decide please!!!!! I look foward to everyones input

The starter clutch hub attaches to the crankshaft with a tapered pin. The one end is usually split so it can be spread out a bit to prevent is comming loose. You drive it out from the split side as it tapers from this side. Color is your preference. Would have been dark green originally.

The tapered set pin is relatively soft steel. Squeeze the split ends together, and drive it out with a pin punch, slightly smaller OD, and centered on the pin. Don't hammer directly on the pin with a hammer - it will mushroom, and then you will have to drill it out If it mushrooms, you will have a RPA getting it out. When you install a new pin, make sure the taper on the crank, and the starter match up!

Question Re: Maytag model 19 update

Ray, the dates on your last post co-incide with the model 92, the 82 single bearing, I believe was earlier than '27

Thye 92 was a dual bearing engine, with the kick starter on one side it, and the flywheel and takeoff on the other. The 82, single bearing was a rope start, only the flywheel end of the crank came out of the crankcase!
