Question DJC low voltage, flash the field?

My 12K DJC is putting out 37 volts on each leg. And the DC ammeter shows negative 1.5 amps. I picked it up in the winter, let is set a few months and got it running and working ok in the spring. One day it was working fine and few days’ later, low voltage. It has no voltage adjustment (R22) control. The VR21 is labeled YD regulator 300 1404(D) .

I’m thinking it’s probably the regulator, but the procedure for regulator checkout looks a bit overwhelming to me. So I’m fishing for something else to check before attempting it. In the section about flashing the field it says check residual voltage at terminals 1 and 2 should be at least 20 VAC. I measure only 11.4. The thing that bugs me is that there were only a few days between when it was working ok and when it started producing low voltage. Mostly what I’ve seen about flashing the field is after it’s been sitting in a field for a few years or something.

Also about flashing, the manual says to use a 6 VDC battery and put a 12 amp, 300v diode in the circuit. I don’t see that mentioned in on-line discussions. Is it worth the effort? Or can I just hit it for second with 12 Volts as I’ve seen suggested.

There are so many smart people on this forum, I guess I’m hoping my symptoms of 37 volts and negative DC amps will trigger a… Oh that’s commonly “a something” from someone. Thanks for your time.

I would say you have a bad regulator.I have seen them work fine one day one day and stop the next.I have one I can send you brand new never been opened. If it works we can talk about price.
