Photo Neptune information needed.

I am new to this board & hobby, and I could use a little help. I just picked up an old Neptune outboard motor...model #15B2 SN D574 ...does anyone have information or know where I could get info on when it was manufactured. I'll try to attach a photo of it.

Also it has some rust (not too bad) in the gas tank...any suggestions on how to deal with that.

Thanks.

Going from vague memory thats a 2 HP model made sometime in the 30s, by muncie gear works, 16:1 oil gas ratio. Be careful with the carb, some carbs from that era had problems with the material, and the metal will crack. Take the tank off, fill it with large nuts and bolts, add some water, and shake like crazy. After you do this a few times, you should have gotten most of the scale out of the tank. I have an identical motor, its a sweet running engine. It will idle down to where you can read the script on the flywheel when its running.
