Default Webster / Herc question

Hi All--

I did a search for this question and did find some info but didn't see the answer. Sorry if I missed it someplace.

I have a 1919 Hercules 1 1/2 hp model E. It's missing the magneto and ignitor. The original mag, I know, was a model M1 Webster. But as I look for a replcement, will any low-tension Webster work or only a model M1?

Thanks!

Jeff

If you have the 303M1 ignitor bracket, you must have the M or MM series Webster magneto to fit it.

Hi Glenn--

First, thanks so much for your help here,on the hercules Group page, and by email. I'm not sure that I even have the mag bracket. Looking through the History of Hercules and the parts books on Keith Kinney's Hercules page, I don't see anything that matches my parts exactly. Keep in mind that I got the engine with a water-hopper full of parts so I don't have much to go by except the pictures

I do have a very rusty & bent part that looks like it might be designed to trip the mag. It's machined to fit the flat part of the pushrod. This part is stamped 345K30. Is this the bracket?

Here's an attempt to upload a picture of the part. But if you can't see the picture, the link should work:

I can attach pics to an email if that would be better. However, I thought I'd post it here in case some other new guy has the same situation.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hmmm. The pic didn't upload, but the link seems to work, although you only get a tiny photo. I'm going to try emailing you Glenn

That's better-- here's another view of the same part. If you look closely you can just barely see the stamping.

Jeff ,I have a Herc 1 1/2 hp can't recall whether it is an e model or not but I made the push rod and mag tripfinger assy. for mine and if you can post the pic or send it to my e-mail adress I can tell you what it is .I've had my motor for about 10 years ,my uncle had it for 30 and my grandfather bought it second hand. The pushrod should be around 18" long or a little under with a cam follower on the squared end that is 3/4 "flat steel turned down on the opposite end for around 8 " it passes through a hole in the casting that is the head and pushes the exhaust valve rocker arm . The pushfinger trip rod is about 4 1/2 " long and is threaded about an inch to 5/16 24tpi that screws into a small fitting and snugs with a jam nut to hold the adjustment ,this is also fine tuning to trip the mag. forgot to mention there is a cutout in the pushrod and another piece of .125 steel is set into it and fastened with a #10 x 24tpi countersunk screw and the pushrod is tapped .This is a trip for the governor. Bud
