Default Maytag info resources?

Hi All,
A recent thread about the different types of carbs for the model 92's got me thinking. Is there a resource somewhere that explains the differences in the parts? I'm looking for something that explains the uses of different gas tanks, backing plates and condensor wire cover, carbs, etc.

If anyone can help point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Steve

Steve,
There is a book by Larry Benton of Monroe, Iowa which has a wealth of info, but does'nt go into intricate detail in all aspects.

My wife and I are in the proccess of building a web site which goes into the intricate and slight details, but it is a big undertaking for people who spend about a half hour on the computer per day.

Glad to answer your specific questions by email or here on the Stak in the mean time!

Tom

Francis,
Thanks for the response. I have that site saved in my favorites already. I also have several reprint manuals but the problem with both of them is they don't show anything about the variance in certain parts. I have a pretty good handle on how these things work so now I am trying to learn more about these variations so I can restore my engines as acurate as possible.

BTW, are you part of BR. 27 that displays at the Pacific Coast Roundup?

Tom,
Sounds like you are developing just what I am looking for! I look forward to you getting it setup. In the meantime, where can I find the book by Larry Benton? I'll also get some thoughts together and send you an e-mail.

Thank you very much for the offer of help, it is greatly appreciated. I am a somewhat younger collector of old iron(36) and am trying to learn all I can. My wife and I are members of EDGE & TA BR. 8. There are a couple of very knowledgeable folks in our group and one of them has kind of offered to take me under his wing to learn. This is great but the problem is, no one in our group knows all that much about Maytags! Several folks have them but they like to call me the Maytag Man as I seem to know the most about them in our group(and I have alot to learn!)

Thanks again,
Steve

Steve,
I just heard from Larry and the book is currently out of print and is being revised. There may be a few around yet. I will check my cabinet to see if I have any extra. I think they were $40 postpaid if I remember right.

I am also a younger collector (the same age as you). I have been soaking up all the information about old iron and Maytag since I first remember playing with a Maytag engine in my Grandfather's barn when i was around 5 or 6. When i got serious about collecting at age 13 a bunch of the old timers told me "Maytags were like butt holes, every body has one". Most everyone tried to steer me away, but I persisted in the Maytag habbit and I don't regret it.

I was lucky enough to remember the days of $5 dollar 92s, $15 twins and $400 fruit jars. Wish it was still that way and that Dad would have let me spend a little more when i was younger. Water over the damn now! Its a great hobby.

We will get back at that web site soon!

Tom
