Default Unknown missing engine

I hope somebody knows which type of engine that will fit.

The village museum in Västerhankmo in Finland has a dithdigger that was made by the local inventor Isak Wahlstedt roundabout 1914. The engine has been missing as long as anybody can remember. The drawings are lost. Rumour has it that the engine was American. There is a photograph of another similar machine with a three or four cylinder side valve engine with open flywheel to the front. The measurements of the mounting holes are: 35x78 cm (13.7x30.7 inch) and the depth of the arched portion of the crossbeam is 6 cm(2.4")

I will try to attach 4 pictures of the machine in it's present condition.

Since the pictures were taken the machine has been moved and we will try to finish a pole shed over it before the winter.

Torleif,
I'm not much help, but I am interested in your project. Do you have photos or able to scan the photo of the other one? Maybe someone will recognize the engine. Very possibly it was removed from a car or something?

I do not have the picture but it may be possible to borrow it and get it scanned. I will try during the weekend. Of cause it does not have to be similar engines on both ditchdiggers. The pictured engine has a visible flywheel in the front end like a boat engine.

One more lead that I had forgotten. Isak had been in Chicago in USA for a few years before he came home and started the mechanic shop. In Chicago he worked with some engines called "Caloric" or "Kalloric" or something like that.
