Default A couple of Maytag 92 questions

I picked up some 92's this weekend. One of them is a very early one by serial#. It also does not have the spring loaded top tooth to help the kick-starter engage.

The bolts that hold the tank together are not slotted. Is this correct for an early 92? Also, when did a side exhaust manifold enter the picture or was it available with the first 92's?

Thanks,
Jamie

The side exhaust was a left over from the late 82 engines, I have only seen a couple. They are early, and rare.

I have 2 side exhaust engines, one was built April 1927 and the other was built June 1929. Both of them have slotted tank bolts. Neither of them have the spring loaded tooth. As far as if this is how they originally came I have no idea. I'm still learning all that myself! I can say both of these engines I have seem to have been complete for a long time. In other words, they don't seem to have been rebuilt or have any wrong bolts from parts being changed.

Hope this helps you some.

Steve
