Default Andover, SD Steam Show

Here are some pictures from our steam show in Andover Sep 8-10. We put on probably the largest steam plowing demonstration you'll ever see as well as sawmills, tractor pulling and all that good stuff!

Yeah, that was an impressive plowing demonstration! How many bottoms were in the ground at one time? Any chance of having a 25 HP G/S join in the fun next year? How is the old Burns Tiger coming along?

Kory,
Very impressive photos and thanks so much for placing them in here. Now that looks like some very serious plowing! Colin is going to place more photos on here too, I'll bet.
Thanks again,
Gary

Mike,
There are 54 bottoms in the ground at one time. I plan to have the 25 Double Gaar done by next year. We just got it inspected and it came out good for 172#'s. Might need it next year to pull the 14 bottom since I don't think the 110 will be ready yet, we are putting a new boiler on it.

Here's a few more pictures. Jim Briden's 40 Avery on 14 bottoms and another plowing shot.

Man, cool pics! 54 bottoms in the ground at one time is quite impressive!

If you hitch that 25 to 14 bottoms, I'd love to see it! I know they hitched a 25 HP to a 14 bottom at the Brandon Motor Trials, so she ought to do it. I guess if the boiler came out good for 172#, must be quite a nice one.

Thumbs up Re: Andover, SD Steam Show

We have had a great time in Andover the last 2 years with Jim's Avery.

I don't get to a lot of shows in other parts of the country, but I have never been to a show in the tri-state area (MN, SD, or ND) that does a better job featuring steam plowing than the James Valley show in Andover. It was great being a part of it!

The best part of these shows is hanging out with friends, and meeting new ones! We got to spend a lot of time with Kory and Colin (from this forum) as well as their families. A good share of our Rollag friends were there as well. One can't ask for much more than spending time with friends who share your passion for steam!

Kory,
What part of the state is Andover located? I spent some time in Watertown, going to school about 25 years ago...but can't seem to locate Andover on my map.
Thanks for the pics...looks like quite a show!!

Looks like a hell of a show. Were there any Minneapolis steamers at the show, I didn't see any in the picturs. When I get my 20Hp Minne done I'll have to bring her and a six bottom plow over.

Andover is about 30 miles east of Aberdeen, and maybe an hour? NW of watertown.
Brian no Minneapolis steamers there but someone was talking about a water tank that was at a sale near there, but they weren't sure where it went. are you looking for tanks? theres a 35-70 Gas tractor there.

Colin,
Did they do any plowing with the 35 70?
I am looking for some tanks. I only need the cast ends. I get new sides rolled and I do hand rivit the seams, so if you know anybody that has any you can E-mail me.

Thanks Brian

Kory,
That is an impressive spark show. Thanks so much for sending it to Craig so he could post it. Avery's have such a unique exhaust sound.

Now, if they'd done that at our NWAPA show, the same weekend, We'd had to change our address from Kalispell to Deer Lodge (State Pennitentiary) as there were stage one restrictions in Montana at the time. However, we're just slightly under a million acres burned this year. In 2000 we had 1,100,000 so this year doesn't make any record books.

Thanks again Kory and Craig,
Gary
