I didn't write down all the prices but a lot of incomplete engines went for a song. A few brought top prices but only a few. If I had been there with a trailer I would have loaded up. Unfortunately, I had flown in from CA to visit my daughter and she was unwilling to store more than one engine. I did get a nice apparently complete Motorgo marine engine with Lunk mixer for the cost of the mixer. A 15 HP F.M on trucks with most parts of the engine in a box went for $500. A 8 HP Associated, marked with a Canadien tag, with extra flywheels and crank, but missing the igniter and mixer went for $150! A running Aeromoter pumping engine, all complete and painted, $700. An early, Sparta Economy parts engine $15. A Sandwich on trucks sold for $650, as I remember. Lots of incomplete parts engines for under $100. Maybe someone else took time to write the prices down. It was one of those auctions a guy will remember. Setting was in a beautiful valley in the foothills.

Ah yes, Bert does have a nice spread up in the foothills! Thankfully they were antique treasures up there, else someone might think there was a junkyard or a superfund site there, Bert's got a lot of stuff!

I didn't write down any prices either as this was my first auction and I was a little unsure of what I was doing. I do remember some prices, like the engines that I bid on including a few others. I think the 50hp superior, the big mofo, went for $2700, 1 3/4 Economy $250, 2hp Witte w/ extended hopper and crank guard $500, Witte 2hp $450, nicely painted Sattley $400 (I wish I would have jumped in on that one), freshly rebuilt Sattley $950, older restore running JD E 1.5hp $1000, freshley rebuilt JD 3hp $1950, 3hp Simplicity on nice cart $850. I scored a Monarch (Nelson Bros) 5hp on a great cart, older restore, $950. There was another 5Hp Monarch original condition needing rebuilt, minus a part or two, $450. I tried to pick up the other Monarch too, but bailed out fairly early.

This being my first auction, the Monarch I scored was the first one I jumped in on. I set a limit in my head of around $1000-$1200 for myself and then was suprised that I got it for under a grand, it looks like an awesome engine! I got really pumped during the bidding and was kind of spent afterwards from the adrenalin rush. I bid on about four other engines but bailed out rather quickly on them, I didn't really care after winning the Monarch...I scored an engine and that's all I really wanted to do!
