Default Horn Motor

Been trying to get the horn on my (6 volt) 1923 model Tt working. I'v cleaned the points and anything else thats looks like needs cleaning. All that it does make a sound like somethings hitting the tin plate but thats it, nothing else. Is there sposed to be a gap in the points and if so how do I adjust the gap? Whats the purpos of the adjustment screw on the top of the unit? Is there any sites that I can go to that can give me some mechanal insight to how it works? If I can get an idea of how maybe I can fix the why.

Thank you,
Will

Tanner, there should be a flat head screw in the center of the back of the horn, you should try to turn it a little bit either way while trying to make it honk, i beleive this adjusts the "air gap" whatever that is, but i know if the screw is turned on a working horn it will stop working.
Hope this helps
Dustin

Will,
If it's a motor driven horn, the adjustment screw should be on the BACK of the motor case. It simply moves the motor armature (and serrated wheel) closer to the point on the tin diaphram, changing the tone (aooogha!). If it's a vibrator type I can't help .

the way horn works is as follows : the points are normally closed letting the electro magnet pull the diaphram in, as soon as it's in it is supposed to open the points allowing it to return to the normal position again closing the points. all this happens very fast making the diaphram vibrate to get the tone. it sounds like your diaphram is pulling in but not opening the points, check to be sure the diaphram is opening the pionts, it may need to be indexed in a certain position to make this happen. the adjust screw should allow for fine tuning the tone after it is working.
