Default Model dynamo kit-Anyone have one?

Gentlemen; PM Research, Inc has an ad in the Oct/Nov 2006 issue of GEM advertising their model dynamo kit, DYN-1 that produces 12 VDC @ 2.4 amps. I wonder if any readers of this forum know anything about this kit. I am wondering if it is just a "repackage" of a small DC electric motor. But, it looks like it would be nice to go along with a small model engine of some sorts.

I think you are right about the 'repackaged' motor components, but the cast iron housing & open brush carrier give it an authentic old look. You could get the same electrical results with an off the shelf PM can motor, but it wouldn't match the era of the engine. All things considered, it looks like a pretty neat little accessory for a small engine and the price is decent too.
...Just my 2 cents worth - I do not work for them.....

that looks like a really nice kit. And the price isn't too bad either, especially when compaired with the prices of other suppliers like Stuart. I have one of their dynamos, andit works ok, but the plastic endbell assy. just really makes it look flimsey. this one looks nice and robust, which will makeit look real nice belted up to an engine.

Here is photo of a Dynamo built from the stator of a ceiling fan. Looks very authentic I think. It powers a 25 watt bulb and gives the engine a nice load. The builder also had a separate switch gear panel with regualtor for the field current.

If you want a complete generator and light, Jensen makes a nice little "open" AC generator for about $110. Comes on a base with a light pole. Stuart Turner is developing one similar to the PM, but more "open". Their web site doesn't say when it will be available.
