Looks like about a Wisconsin V-4, most were 15-20kw. This one might be a little bigger.

Agree with Wayne, looks light it may be the big V-4 Wisconsin made, the V-465. At 65 horsepower max, I'm not sure what RPM that is measured at, but most likely not 1800. If this one probably ran at 1800, I would agree with the 15~20 kW range--I think 25 would be pushing it too much for this motor at 1800.
Used to use the 465's in the service on military equipment, and they were always operated in the 3200~3600 rpm range. |

My Kohler book say's that anything higher than 15 KW is liquid cooled! 10 KW was a VH4 (see my 10RMY62 VH4D powered 10KW in my profile) Virgil T has a 18RMY which looks about like this one....Wish it was nearer to me!

The 15RMY62 used a Wisconsin VG4D rated 32HP at 1800RPM. The pictures look exactly like the pictures in the manual, and thats what I believe it is. I also thought that this was the largest air cooled unit Kohler made. I put one up in NC in 2000 and it has proved a good, reliable unit.

Jack you nailed it and everybody else guessed right also. I just got the following new info from the seller:
"Here is some info that I got off of the unit. Gen: Model 15RM782 Serial: 157703 Motor: Teldyne Wisconsin, Model X4B7A, Serial 7309443, and another number that says Y-97. Hope this helps, please post this on your forum. Thanks." I know he means 15RMY82. |

Oops, Jim, I'll have to say I had it wrong on the engine model for sure!
Fuzzy memory; I guess I had forgot exactly what a 465 looked like until I dug out a picture--forget they were OHV engines.

Yes,
Not too savory, at least in the beginning. It may be known dead/flooded, and not condition unknown/just missed the flood, you just never know. I bought one that was supposedly condition unknown, untested, but after the fact, I wonder about it. It had a bad exciter stator. After these things change hands several times, the chain of knowledge does get broken somewhere along the line. |
