Default Johnson Model A 25 1920's-30's????

Just aquired a Johnson Model A-25...seems to be about a 2-3hp maybe...

Does anyone have info on this baby....such as what I need to go through to see if I have spark and overall set up stuff to get her running. I need a cylinder freeze-out plug also. And, in the one pic, you can see a part broke off...what appears to be a slide for spark advance/timing?
Contact me here or at hoytheld@yahoo.com

Thanks
Jason

Do a search for the "antique outboard motor club" ,thats where you can get more info than you can remember.

Contact Don Dwiggins, at 479-641-2413 he has manuals for these motors, very reasonably priced. If you have the broken off piece the easiest thing is to have it welded back on. If not you'll need the whole stator plate, and can advertise for free on the AOMCI web site. Good luck. Doug Hudgel

Serial #s of the A25s made in 1925 ran from 20001 to 30559, so its the first year of A25 production, ie; a 1925.
They were also made in '26, then followed by the 2.5hp A35 in '27-'28. The A25 is rated at 2hp.
I believe a copper penny will fit as a frost plug.
If u are lucky enough to have ignition, and dressing and setting the points may be all thats necessary, then it should fire if it still has compression. The piston type water pumps are usually functional, but check it out. Grease the lower unit; -Lubriplate 105 would be good, no oil though.
You need a need mag plate if u want to replace that handle, and some are available through the AOMC.
Not sure if the A35 or A45 model ones will fit. Ask over there. These are good running little motors, and surprisingly common because most have survived.
