Gust..........what photo imaging program are are using?
IF you don't HAVE one try THIS one: http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm It's FREE.....has EVERYTHING the average user (and THEN some) needs and doesn't try to take over your system and won't change file defaults. Craig |

The on-site automatic image resizing software SHOULD resize almost any image you want to upload BUT it doesn't always work.............
Here are the acceptable formats for the site: bmp 48.8 KB 640pixels x 480 pixels (AVOID using THIS format) doc 195.3 KB - - gif 195.3 KB 640 x 480 (THIS one isn't too hot for the site either) jpe 195.3 KB 1024 x 1024 (NOTE: jpe, jpeg and jpg are the same file formats) jpeg 195.3 KB 1024 x 1024 jpg 195.3 KB 1024 x 1024 pdf 195.3 KB - - (chances are few people even HAVE this option) png 195.3 KB 1024 x 1024 (this one is good too if it's an option in your software) If you have any problems please email the pics to me and I'll add them for you...................

Craig,
This photo thing is something I need to learn. I'm in Ok. now useing someone elses computer, and it's different. When I get back home to Wash. and to my own computer, I'll make contact with you and get it figured out. Since there are no thanks buttons anymore, just wanted to thank you for all you do for Harry and smokstak. Thanks, Walt |

The method that I use for resizing pictures is pretty simple once you do it a couple of times. This works pretty good, providing you have "Microsoft Office Picture Manager" in you computer
Right click on picture. Select "Open With" Select "Microsoft Office Picture Manager" from the list. Now your picture will appear on the screen in the picture manager. Select "Edit Pictures....." on the toolbar on top of the screen. Select "Resize" on the right side of the screen. Select "predefined width and heigth" Scroll down to "Web-Large (640 x 480 px) Click OK Save it and your ready to post!! The other feature of using this program is that you can select a whole folder of pic's, view them all at once as thumbnails in the "microsoft office picture manager" and resize the whole bunch of pics at once! Saves you alot of monkeying around when you don't have to do one at a time! Hope this helps, Rick |

Rick: Will give it a try, thank you. Sorry for the delay computer died after I posted the question and it took a few days to get another system. Electronics has advanced somewat. The computer boys installed all of the programs and saved all of the information off the old system,am now in the process of figuring out everything. To top it off wife wanted a curved key board so I can't see my fingers. Harry,
I just had a problem trying to load two picts in the same post. Somehow it wouldn't accept the second pict, so I ended up making another post... It was my impression that ya could load up to five post in the same post? Mo |

I merged your last two photos.
All photos must be under 2Meg file size. You can post up to 4 photos, 2 at a time. If you are on dial-up, you might be better at doing 1 at a time. |

Just some notes about linking photos from other sites.
The NORM is people lose interest and after a short time all that displays is the dreaded RED X, most times making the referencing post meaningless. The OTHER issue is people DON'T RESIZE THEIR IMAGES TO A MANAGABLE SIZE....... ![]() ![]() I have 768kbs DSL and I click off pages that take too long to load. What you suppose a dialup user does?....... ![]() And yes......a LOT of people still use dialup because there are no affordable alternatives. Not everyone lives in downtown Manhattan you know.......

We have the option of NOT hot linking (IMG CODE) photos from other sites. The preferable method here is to use the attachment system. Yes, this is "only" a thumbnail, however, when it is clicked on it becomes up to 1024 X 800 and thumbnails are a lot easier for dialup users to handle. Many photo services have gone bust in the past. The result is that users lose all their photos and Smokstak readers endure the red X instead of a photo.
Dialup users can take advantage of this in the thread options of their control panel... You have the option to show or hide various elements of messages, which may be of use to users on slow internet connections, or who want to remove extraneous clutter from posts.
