I looked them up and the Johnson A-35 is a 2 1/2 hp and made in 1927 but was a 1928 model. With the Elgin, all the Ser. numbers start with a 571.58301 in 1946 and sold though Sears. Could your Elgin be a West Bend? is there anyother numbers on it? - Hope this helps, John

the Elgin name is in raised lettering on top of the recoil the model # is 571.58561 sold by Sears, Roebuck and company. it is 5 obc certified BHP @ 4000 rpm. I can't see anywhere on it that has any southbend name on it. Thank you for your info
