Default File download request......

I've been consistently getting a window that pops-up and demands that I download a file to my "A" drive in order to go from the Smokstak main forum to the Smokstak menu page. I use this route to get to the classified ads.

I've already corresponded with Harry about it and he suggested that I bring it up here to see if anyone else has experienced this phenominen(sp???).

I can use any other route to get to the classifieds but this one almost always wants me to download a file. If I opt out of the download, I'm right back where I started from.

The file isn't very big and downloads fairly fast, then I am at the menu I want.
If I use a text reader, I get a lot of stuff that looks like an HTML page, definitely Harry's-oriented.

It is also benign. No mushroom clouds or garbage cans full of spam or anything like that.

Is anyone else experiencing this? If not, I think I'll just take my pill and work around it.

No biggie. Thanks, Harry!

Take care - Elden

I tried it again today and I didn't get the request. Where I've clicked is "Smokstak" at the bottom of the "New Posts" page.

Must be somepin Billy Gates forgot to sweep out of his wunnerful Windoze software.

There is a 'funny' that we used to get with settings in Zonealarm, that brought up a file download dialog panel, are you using Zonealarm?

Just for the record, clicking Smokstak at the bottom of the page is the same link address as clicking the Smokstak logo at the very top.

The most direct link to Enginads is to click the Classified Ads link in the menu bar or on the Quick Links drop-down menu.

In any event, something trying to download is not normal. Some web sites I go to try to download something into my Microsoft Office programs. I always click cancel, which needs to be clicked two or three times before it gives up and then a pop-under-ad shows up. I suspect this too is a configuration defect, but not important enough to chase down.

And the above problems are all the more reason to use this:

Peter:

No, I'm not using Zonealarm. I think the problem (gone for a few days now) is what Billy Gates refers to as an "Undocumented feature" of Windoze.
