Photo Thanksgiving Weekend Engine Auction - Taylorville, IL

Photos and prices from the auction this weekend in Taylorville, IL. Engines sold at 1pm...Others showed up at 9:30 and when they found out that the engines were selling 3+ hours later, they left... If I had known, I would have spent more time at with my nephews before driving up to the auction so early...

Thanks Steve.

I am shocked the R&V's did not bring more than that. Even with the flywheels being in the shape they are in, I would have thought they would have brought more.

Looks like there were more bargin prices at your auction than at the one in eastern PA I attended.

The RVs and vertical Stover were a steal--what happened? Maybe they were made of wood! ha

Being somewhat familiar with vertical R&V engines there will be a lot of custom casting and pattern making. {I would like to see the coring for carb.} It will require an above average home machine shop to machine the flywheels. And where are you going to get a pattern. These costs will run into several hundreds of dollars and if a person had to hire this work done it will be in to thousands. Prices on R&V engine may be low, but it reflected the condition of the engines. Kevin

The R&V's were very tough. The R&V 3hp that sold for $925 was the only one that had the correct carb. The hard to find ignitor which was missing on all of them as well. Prices reflected it. Photos were not available until the night before on the online bidding site.

Would anyone like to share who was the buyer of the 2 hp vertical Stover with the brass "Agents" tag from Argentina ? I would like to speak with the new owner about the company "Juan Shaw E Hijos" and the specific "Agent" tag. Thank you.

dusty.

How does one find out where these auctions are? I'm 25 minutes from Taylorville and I had no idea that sale was going on. I sure would have liked to have gone. Is there a listing of engine auctions in Illinois? Thanks for posting the pics.

I picked up my Titan Jr at the Aumann fall auction in 01 or 02 for $1K. The engines generally don't sell well, and I thought the total selection for the complete auction was pretty poor. My father and I looked around Saturday morning for about 30-45 min & left. There was a 1923 preproduction Farmall Regular on the auction that only got a max bid of $5250. I assume that the tractor didn't sell, as recent rumors were that the owner had been asking $100K for the last few months.

"How does one find out where these auctions are?"

Here are a couple of links

http://www.nixonauctioneers.com/

http://www.aumannauctions.com/

http://auctionzip.com/

Other sources of auction information are local newspapers, Gas Engine Magazine, Local farmer's papers like Farm and Dairy (Ohio and western PA) and Lancaster Farming (PA, MD, DE, NJ, NY parts of VA), local auctioneer's web sites, Smokstak auction page (if people list auctions), flyers at engine shows and other auctions, and you might check your local yellow pages for auctioneers and get on their mailing lists if they do engine or farm auctions. These are just some sources I've used, I'm sure there are others. I have a lot more auctioneer links but they're all for central PA and MD.
