Edwin, I have a small hit and miss model which uses a 1" dia. x 1/16 cross section O-ring. I just pick one up at my home supply store (I use Lowes or Home Depot) not sure what you might have up there in the far North. I think the ones I use are Viton and they seem to last for a long time. Maybe someone else might know more about O-ring materials than I do. I use camp stove fuel with a little 2-cycle oil mixed in. Seems to get plenty of lubrication on the top end that way. I run my little engine most all day long at the shows I go to during the summer and I have only changed the o-ring out two or three times in about 4 years. Good luck with yours.
Frank

viton o-rings are more chemically resistant than buna-n, you should be able to pick them up at any auto parts store or order them from a warehouser such as Mc Master Carr. If your main concern is pumping water regular old buna-n should work fine.
