I have been without service on and off since Sunday afternoon and was without from Monday evening till some time late Tuesday night. So I want everone to be aware that there service sucks and one person really got rude with my wife yesterday morning when she called and needed help. Thanks for letting me vent. Hope all is well. Yup I Hear Ya.... I had it about a year now and it was pretty Good at first... Then gradually got to Terrible.... Sometimes No Signal or real Slow....
Now they have updated the FAP (Usage) Meter and it registers a lot higher than it used to so you have to be real carefull or you will go over... I read the Wildblue uncensored forum and we are Not Alone.... I think most people are Fed Up With it... My Contract is up so I can Dump it with No Penalty and the only reason I am keeping it at this point is to see what happens.... It was So Poor that I got a 9.95 a month dailup backup to use everytime it Died... I think the problem is that they oversold the service for their capacity and are trying last ditch efforts to keep it going.... If they don't change their attitude the New Satellite they just launched will be Empty...

Wild Blue has suffered all the same problems that the other SAT Based ISP's
have, and for the exact same reasons. Oversold Transponder Bandwidth, not enough quality Installers, and incompetant Network Design on the ISP's end of the link. Starband and DirectWay have the same problems, sometimes worse than others. I have worked with DirectWay, and with Starband since their inception, and suffered thru three Modem changes, as well as network, and SAT Link problems, over the years. The system does function, if only they would leave it alone, and not overload the the SAT Segments to wring every possible byte/sec out of the system. Starband has suffered massive server failures, both email, and DNS, in the last year, and that causes total outages and real network problems. I have my own Email and DNS Servers so I don't depend on Starbands, and that keeps me online when others are having problems, but these are the pitfalls of having someone else responcible for your operations. SAT ISP's are never "Great", but they are better than "Nothing", if nothing is your only other choice. Bruce in alaska

We live at the far end of a very long rural telephone line, so the only broadband Internet service available is via satellite. I'm seriously considering subscribing to Wildblue or Direcway (Hughes).
I thought it would be a smart move to sign up with the WildBlue Uncensored forum in order to get a feel for the level of user satisfaction; but, my registration keeps getting rejected. Each time the password fields are left blank, so I'm guessing that there must be something demanded of the password that I don't understand. Any ideas? I've registered with dozens of forums and have never had this problem, before. Tx Orrin |

Well...I just registered with a Gas Engine name and a 7 Digit letter/number password and had No Problem...
The Hughes forum wants Money to even read it so I didn't join that one... I think you can read the wildblue one as a geust but need to join to post... Old Blue keeps working Just good enough so that I don't dump it or go to something else... It's been better lately since the Big Fiasco about 11-17 or so... I got a 9.95 a month Dialup backup and sometimes that is faster than WB. But most of the time WB is better at least for pictures or Larger downloads... The problem I have with the dialup is in Wet or Humid weather all the telephone peds get wet and that Green mold gets my Speed down to as low as 14.4 but on a Good dry day my dialup will connect at 26.4. Wildblue will connect at up to about 100 K up and 512 down... BUT since the system got overloaded will download in Jerks and the effective speed is lower... Also Weather will affect any satellite service so if you have lots of heavy rain it will cutout... If your thinking of wildblue I would wait a couple months and get on the new Sattelite they just launched.... Things will probably???? be better there untill it gets overloaded also...

Thank you for the information, Ken. Although I wasn't able to get registered, I've found out all I want to hear on other forums (fora), for instance, the "Big Fiasco about 11-17." For sure, I won't consider signing up with either WildBlue or Hughes. There are other satellite ISPs out there.
Starband, in spite of their financial troubles, seems to provide satisfactory service in our area. Folks I know are very happy with it. I might even consider staying with dial-up for e-mail and weaning myself of time-consuming forum-reading. One way or the other, it's high time I spend more time in the workshop. Orrin |

Satelite is my only option too...and I've had Starband for a few years... it's got the WORST tech support I've ever seen!!!!!! I'm not happy with the speed or stability, but it doesn't sound like anyone else is much better. I was hoping that WB would be better...my sis has it, just down the road, and she seems to be happy with it...but she's not on much....and usually just to email. I went to their website the other day and was inquiring about signing up, and they said they were sold out and weren't going to be adding any for a while..
Guess I'll have to stick with what I have.JH

Yup... Some beams are Full and there isn't even enough room for the people that are there already so they had to stop new installs.
But they just launched their own Bird and as soon as they get it working will have more Room for a while anyway... I think they expect that one to be up and running in a couple months... That won't help us old guys any as they expect overcrowding untill enough people cancel from the old bird. I think up untill now they have rented space on Anik F 2 or something... If it had continued like it was in the last part of November I would have made some room.... I was really Close...
