Default xp vs. 98

Hi! I need some advice. I have XP on my pc and am not to happy with it. My machine is somewhat older and with xp being such a large program I was wondering if I could install 98 over xp. I know xp can go over 98, I just want to go back.
Thank you in advance to all who reply.

If you want to go back you will have to wipe the hard drive and start from square one...............bear in mind 98 is no longer supported...............IOW you can get all the updates up TO the time support ended but no more new "fixes".
I love XP................ but on ANY computer running XP you DO need lots of memory...........rather than trash XP I'd buy some memory.................it's cheap.

More information?

Processor speed? Intel Celeron 665 MHz

Amount of RAM memory? 63 MB

Hard dirve size? 19.0GB with 14.5 GB or 76% free space

Don't get me wrong, I do like xp and for me it works just fine! A little slow is ok. Its my wife who is complaining about her on line bingo and card games being to slow on my machine. (wrong forum for that problam) Not only that but we live in the country and have a very slow dial up. No high speed here! I can increase the memory and that may be the way to go for now. I also have SiSoft Sandra installed and it does give me several hints to improve performance.

Well...........the problem is sure evident NOW........
XP needs about 250 megs of RAM just to load.........so you're operating on virtual memory which means EVERYTHING is being written to the hard drive and accessed FROM the hard drive rather than coming from the RAM which accesses recent information instantly.
Depending on your motherboard RAM slots.........drop in 528 megs of RAM and you won't believe the difference........
Your computer is fine for some surfing and simple games.
If you have a lousy isp with a lousy connect speed the above isn't going to help much...........

Renee, when your running an Intel Celeron your memory limited off the bat, so the more memory you can add to the board, the better it will run, you have enough processor and hard drive to carry the XP without problem, but XP loves its memory, and if you do need a bigger hard drive down the road, thats a simple solution as well, so long as the graphics and speed are fine for what your doing....install as much memory as you can get, even a gigabyte (1024 megabytes) wont hurt you any, be aware that some boards are finicity on what kind of memory tho, you should try and match what you put in it to eleviate problems down the road, some boards require one sided memory, while others work with either one sided or double sided, check what you have now and just buy the same type, should be no problem, You are likley going to need PC 100, or PC 133 -168 pin SDram, your mother board booklet or the manufacturers website should be helpful in letting you what the mother board will use.

Regards,

Brian

Brian you are absolutely correct. My board has two 168 pin slots. I went out shopping yesterday and picked up two 256 PC100 SDRAM DIMM. What a difference!!
This old sod say's thanks to you all for your help.
