I'm not at all an expert,
but it doesn't look at all to me like the mass-produced, relatively cheap models I've seen. Rather a hand-made job from castings?
I don't even want to know what you didn't have to pay for it!
Possibly google Coles model engines and see if you can find a catalog/pictures.
And/or try the steam/model section here. Happy New Year.

Try looking for some older Stuart Turner information as it appears to have a Stuart valve chest cover.
Regards Ian.

Just had a look through an old Stuart Turner catalogue and the engine appears to be a Stuart No. 9 with a govener which was available as an extra, the price in the 1989 catalogue that i have was £120 for the engine casting kit and the extra govener castings were £19.97 they are probably twice the price now.
Try this link to see a site with a few pictures of the No.9 engine.

The #9 casting kit is currently made of unobtanium ... I've been trying to get one off Stuart for a customer for almost a year.

Stuart-Turner doesn't currently list the #9 on their site, but Coles Power models has the kit in their price list for $952, with the governor kit another $93 or so. THey may have some old stock, or they may have just not deleted it when the price list was updated.

Thumbs up Re: Flea Market steam engine, what is it.

Ian, Thanks, it does apear to be a #9 engine. The engine also has a shut of valve for the main steam line and what apears to be an in-line oiler. I will take some pictures of the valve and oiler and post later. AS for Kelly, yes this is a 1/6th scale runnning model of a Type C mogul made by Bill. This tractor is very detailed. Even has the friction clutch reverse, and works. I will take some pictures of it and post also. Thanks for your help. Mike

Tom & Allen,I noticed that Stuart Turner no longer list the casting kit for the #9 but if you go to the Ready to Run section http://www.stuartmodels.com/inprod.c...ion/readytorun of the site they seem quite happy to try and sell complete #9 for £1318.00 that must be somwhere between $2500 and $2600 without tax. I shall see them at the Model Engineering show down at London in three weeks time, i'll ask them why they don't sell the kit anymore but sell the complete engine.
Ian.

Ian, Already talked and talked to them...they claim they had to change foundries and the # 9 is a few months away....and that's what they've been saying for almost a year!

If you want to stir up the hornets nest ask them when they'll get their act together and start selling the Cheddar stuff they bought....

Photo Re: Flea Market steam engine, what is it.

Here is a picture of the shut off valve and what looks like the oiler. I am not up on little steam engines and would like to know how to work the oiler. I will also need a boiler to steam it up. Any help on the location of a boiler would be great. Also here is a picture of the scale model IH. Thanks Mike

Your lubricator is a standard Stuart displacement type. The needle valve on the side allows a small amount of steam to enter the lubricator, where it condenses and sinks to the bottom---displacing the lighter steam oil in the lubricator (hence the name) which flows into the steam line to lubricate the cylinder....They won't work on air at all. The screw on the bottom is to let the water and mixed gunk out when refilling the lubricator, but many people just suck it out from the top with a syringe.

Hope this helps

I got just email from Stuart Models:

Quote:
Dear Sir,

At the moment The No.9 castings are out of stock, we hope to have a new batch of castings in 10 - 12 weeks time.

Also he said: The price in USD would be approximately $ 480.00 + shipping
