In my model engines, I use 5W-40, and WD-40 as a spray lubricant where needed. I think straight 40 wt is too heavy - it wont flow into tight areas on a model fast enough.

A lot of fellows seem to like to use ATF in the cylinder lubricators. I use a high quality light machine oil like sewing machine or turbine oil for general lubrication. I don't like using WD-40 or 3-in-1 oil on moving parts for 2 reasons, they stink and they evaporate...However, they, along with a few other spray lubes, ARE fairly good for wiping down bare metal right before storage.

I just use 10/30 motor oil with some STP for general oiling. And mix a little 2 cycle oil in the gas to help with cylinder lubrication. Some guys swear by using Marvel mystery oil. I use a thin oil like 3 in 1 on my valves as the heavy oil seems to make the atmospheric intakes sticky.

I asked a fellow one time what he was using for oil and he said "straight STP......stays were I put it see!"

Hi

I use 30 non detergant for the oiler andoil cups ,bearing grease in the main bearing caps. I mix 1part wd40 to 8 parts coleman fuel to run my engines it
works good. You well find that your engine well burn a lot cleaner with out
getting all gummed up, and well also coast longer on the miss cycle.
This has worked for me for over 35 years

Me? I usually use what the old Chevy motel with 386K miles takes, 5W-30 . I like Marvel Mystery oil (RED) in my IHC models . I use a bit of WD-40 in the fuel, makes it smell nice and adds some lubrication .

I have been experimenting with air tool oil and have had some success with it. My models all have small shafts and bearings so heavy oils do not fair well.

My opinion is that engines with a 1 inch bore or larger should be using regular lubricants, like those used to lube your full sized engines.

I have 1/4 scale Perkins-It was recomended to use mineral oil for the oiler and moving parts. This has worked well for me.It is available at most drug stores.
Hope this helps.
