Donald:

The only thing I can think of is that either the filler tube has gotten bent by something flying up from the road or the rubber connecting hose between the filler and the tank has gone south.

Hope that helped.

Take care - Elden

Check to see if the rubber coupling between the filler neck and the tank is collapsed. Sometimes that happens when the vent system of the tank isn't working.

Many cars use a separate vent tube from the top of the gas tank to the filler neck...if this tube is kinked or plugged, you will have a very slow fillup....I've had this trouble before, once with the rear tank on a 1995 Ford F350 and also on a 1957 Volvo 444. It is probably more common to vehicles where the filler can't make a "straight shot" to the tank.

Oh yeah, almost forgot...until I fixed the vent hose, I found the fillup went much quicker if I could park in such a way that the filler side of the car was higher than the other by an inch or two.

Well, let me ask this; when you're trying to fill with the nozzle running fast, does it blow a lot of gas spray back?

If so, that vent tube might be the problem. Hadn't thought of that. Glad someone's on his toes!!!!

Could also be a Canister Vent solenoid or the Carbon Canister it self.. Or the Fuel tank Pressure sensor.. I guess it could be a number of things... I work on em for a living.. Its amazing what they can hang on a Vehicle that makes other things not work properly LOL..

This truck is probably much like my 1996 f150 ,as far as the filler neck goes-----This I my experience---- Some body tries to shove a hose down the filler neck and has one hell of a time getting it to go down and then all of a sudden it gets easy. The next time I tried to fill up it acted exacly as you described. What happens is the filler neck has a seprate soft rubber hose inside the metal filler neck that you can see from underneath the truck. This is not a vent hose as the gas you pump into the truck goes down the soft rubber hose and the displaced air returns via the space around the rubber hose and filler neck. What happens when you shove a hose down the filler neck to borrow some gas is that it grips the soft rubber hose enough that the clamp (cheap piece of sh--)comes un done and every thing winds up in the bottom of tne tank , It is impossible to see because of the little trap door visible in the filler neck. After this it is next to impossible to gasup. Use up all your gas , remove the filler neck, check out my story .

I had a 1990 F250 diesel, wouldnt take fuel if it was slightly sloping to the drivers side at the pump, went by a local Chevron one day, they had a 6x6 on a chain just for Fords, you run the back wheel up on it and it pumped normal. Started carrying one with me.

I had a '79 Chevy that wouldn't take gas when the nozzle was running full, unless you inserted it about half-way, then it worked. Otherwise, if the nozzle was put all the way in, you could only open it to the second notch.

our 79 chevy will not take gas either. What I did was to check it out and realized that the filler runs flat then turns down. I took out the screws right where the filler neck mounts to the body and moved the filler neck up about a half inch or about as much as I could. By using the screws to hold the bottom of the tabs instead of the center where the holes are, it fixed the problem by about half. Still not perfect, but I am not able to raise the neck any higher with really cutting and re-engineering......

Donald, I know right where you are, not far from where I started out. Is there still a guy there with a little steam engine and little locomotive??

Exclamation Re: Cant get my truck to take gas

The Town I work for got a used 95 F250 from state surplus, It came with two gas tanks and you could never get any gas in the front tank. I eventually pulled the tank and removed the filler hose assembly, smaller hose inside larger one, gas goes down small one vents up large one. I found the small hose had a kink in it, about half way up. Cut the kink off and put it back short, It would take gas but some times put up a fight. Put the passenger side down slope helped. Eventually pulled the bed and installed an old utility box and when I did this I pulled the small hose all the way out, It works now?
