Default Ryder Ericsson Hot Air Pumping Engine

This is a pumping engine that runs on hot air from a gas or coal flame on one side and cooling well water on the other side. The two cylinders are timed so as to control the air flow between them, alternately reversing temperature and therefore pressure and then suction on the pistons which are exposed to atmospheric pressure on the top side.

I made a model of one of these H A engines last winter and showed it at several shows last summer, it was quite a crowed pleaser. I made a small propane burner and a water tank for it. It will run about 20 hours on one tank of fuel. It runs good and pumps lots of water. It is about 27 inches high and has a 2 inch bore.
