Okay just wondering if any knowledgable Maytag experts can set me straight on something....I recently purchased a Model 92.....only thing it had for an aircleaner is a brass screen......I thought the aircleaner was missing....I had on in my shop....well low and behold.....it doesn't fit and I know it came off of another model 92........So my question is......am I missing alittle adaptor pipe to mate it to this engine....or did some come without the aircleaner? Thanks in advance.......

Depends on the age. Some 92's had the little round filter (I think the later ones) and the others just had the brass screen. The filters do not fit on the ones with the brass screen.

From about 1930 on used the canister air filter. The earlier canister type air filters say 1930 to 1933 used a version that stayed in place with a snap ring around the neck of the canister. Model 92's 1927 to 1930 used the screen in the carb held in place with a snap ring. I think the canister type air filters should still fit in the earlier models carb that had only the screen but I'll go out to my shed in a few days to check for sure. Hope this helps. - Kevin

Thanks alot......Chris and Kevin.......okay so I have an earlier 92 with just the little brass screen.....and the air filter that I have is from a later 92.......Just when I thought I was starting to figure these things out....I guess there must be a ton of different variations for the Maytag engine line. Thanks again.

The 92s that used the canister, had a flat boss on top of the mixer inlet - about 1 1/4" long, and a 1/4 wide. the set screw tightened against the flat. The inside of the bore was straight thru. The earlier carbs had a step, and some had a depression built in, for a circlip to set in.
