Hi folks i bought a manzel bros. oiler a while back a few months back ,i won it on ebay and never got it,this seller has four or five negative feedback from the last things he sold.although the seller isnt on ebay anymore his ebay name was motorjoperala, from Racine WI he is a young fellow that has alot to learn about being honest more so if your going be be an engine guy and want to sell things in the future pretty sad to have your friends sell for you because no one likes you.So i guess i lose out on this one.I just dont want it to happen to anyone else in the future.
thanks Ed |

I understand you wanting to preserve your 100% Bruce, but maybe you owe it to everyone else to warn them of him and let the chips fall where they may.
I lost my 100% giving a guy a negative when he wouldn't pay, so I fully understand, and don't expect anyone to have 100% if they've been dealing very long. It's way too easy to tangle up with one idiot whether you're buying or selling. When we do, I think we need to post negative. One bad mark out of 200 won't hurt you or me, but 4 in the last month will sure hurt them. Kevin |

hi kevin
you are right about the warning that i could of givin to others by way of a negative to the seller..he allready had a few in his rating and i figured i should of new better and i had a feelling all along but i wanted the item. i realize as the buys add up the chance increases for a negative as your dealing with all kinds in the world,he had allready shown him self to be dishonest and i learnt a lesson.i would do anything in my power to correct a problem with a buyer or a seller before giving a negative and i have had a few struggles even phoning them and so far it had worked out. the rating system is a important one, thats the first thing i look at when concidering a bid,in this case i figured why let one idiot drag me down, sometimes you gotta move on. bruce |

I have always used the ebay/paypal dispute procedures for non payers and non-shippers.
On three purchases I have managed to get the issue sorted out pretty quickly once the vendor had the message from ebay/PayPal, one in particular was a full refund as the item was not as described. On sellers, I have one dispute running at present: bought an old Compaq luggable to play with, vendor said she was moving house and would be back in a week for the collection, haven't heard since. Gave it three weeks then started the dispute process. I have only ever left one negative, and that was for a guy in Taiwan who admitted he hasn't the money to pay. The process is not quick, but it gives both sides a chance to get the issues sorted out under the view of the two sites. Peter |

I had one woman in PA stick me on an oiler, and not for huge money, but still being screwed that way makes one a tad angered, my mistake was I trusted this persons word and believed she had shipped the oiler, well needless to say after 60 days had passed there was little I could do as Ebay doesnt want to help anyone after that time period, and again, my fault for being too trusting, but there used to be a code of ethics and morals most lived by, today that seems to be a joke the way people willingly try to scam others.

"but there used to be a code of ethics and morals most lived by, today that seems to be a joke the way people willingly try to scam others."
All through history there have been snake oil salesmen, hucksters, shell game artists, carnival scammers, hiwaymen, and crooks. It's just that now their operations are seen by more people because of things like the internet - there's less of a one-on-one where the victim is too embarrased to say anything. And yes, I'm old enough to remember some of it first hand. Larry |

I have managed to preserve my 100% on an account that I started in the 90's, although I don't do a lot of buying or selling. The one time I had a major dispute was selling a $35,000 sportscar and the winning bidder had a feedback of 5 positive, 3 negative with the negatives being due to him being a non-paying bidder. I was not happy to see he won, and he stiffed me as well. I turned in a complaint to Ebay and last I checked he was still on there with about a 60% feedback rating. Ebay didn't refund my $45 listing fee; just the $45 final value fee. Not too happy with the deal...
But, the way I gave this guy his negative was a bit sneaky. I waited 89 days from the end of the auction since you had 90 days (not sure if the time is the same now) to leave feedback. I was hoping he might not check it regularly, and sure enough he didn't have time to hit me back with a negative before the option went away. Jason |

perhaps, Harry could help us by setting up a seller/buyer list on this site that we could maintain and add too to keep us safe as well?
Not one to bash people, but I agree, if someone plays dirty they should get sited for it. |

I have over 300 sales on eBay, and as an IT Trainer I also teach eBay buying and selling. There are rip off merchants out there for sure, but eBay is all about 95% communication. I always send a seller a question, no matter how trivial, to gauge how quick they respond. Then the vital part is checking their feedback. I also keep a track on my bidders, I check their feedback during my auctions. This week I had three scammers struck off eBay for false advertising, there are plenty of the out there. Also those using eBay to promote their outside stores which is against eBay policies. If you react quickly and forcefully eBay will act and reply back to you. I have very good communications with eBay staff.
If we all police it and warn others we can catch these mongrel out. Enjoy the bargains that eBay can provide but communicate as well Peter, Oz |

The best policy is that you are all on your own when it comes to the test for libel and slander. I don't need to be instigating trouble, but on the other hand if YOU have proof, YOU should be able to defend your actions. Most every story has two sides and that's why you see responses to the eBay feedbacks.
It would be great if everyone who got shortchanged on eBay would come right out and say so on their feedback system. Sure, there would be retaliatory feedback, but the bad guys would have more negatives than the good guys. Incidentally, we do have a feedback system of sorts on the Enginads classifieds. You can get to it by clicking a user's name on the ads. |

I've bought about a dozen things off Ebay, and haven't sold any yet. Most of what I bought was too big to ship, so I bought it semi local, drove down and picked the stuff up, paid cash and have had no problems yet (knock wood
) I'm not trusting enough to send more than say $20 out in the hopes of getting something from a guy that I have no real info on besides some feedback. I don't understand how folks can buy an expensive "Widget" on faith wothout eyeballing it in the flesh to be sure that it is what the seller says it is. I guess I'm not a big risk taker.
