An 80s vintage Dodge Omni was our worst. It got to the point where all the door handles broke off one winter due to the cold and sticky door mechanisms, and we had to get in through the hatchback until spring. On top of that, it was plagued with engine troubles and a transmission that shifted like junk. I was very happy when I sold that car
....then my sister bought one , and I had to fix it for her Daniel |

I agree, Daniel--the Horizon/ Omni had some inherent flaws. The one I had went back to the dealer a month after it was bought & had a completely different style clutch disc & pressure plate installed(the one used on the 1.6 L it turns out) to cure the problem of downshifting when the engine was cold and at high idle. I also had to replace the driver's O/S door handle once. But I consider the 1987 Omni one of the BEST cars I've ever owned or driven. It was cheap to maintain and repair, simple to operate, had a dependable drivetrain with plenty of power (for a cheap 4 cylinder car, that is), and had a comfortable front seat with a fairly straightforward dash layout. I drove mine for 10 years, put over 150,000 miles on it, and got the best gas mileage from anything I've ever driven in that car (42 mpg between Flagstaff, AZ & Albaquerque, NM--the best single tank gas mileage I ever recorded in anything, and that was at an average speed of 70 mph). And it should not be forgotten that other companies were offering cars in the same size/price range that had even worse driver ratings than the Omni/ Horizon (which of you kept a Chevette, Escort or Yugo for 10 years?
) It may not have been an Accord or a Camry, but mine seemed like a decent car.

When I got out of the Navy in 1970 I bought a 1962 Lincoln 4 door convertible
It ALWAYS got me where I was going BUT. There is no way to count the number of: water pumps, fuel pumps, power steering pumps, convertible top pumps, transmission front pumps, cv and "u" joints, power window motors, and switches and relays. One night I had too much to drink, drove it into an apartment swimming pool and totaled it Now a days driving a car into a building is perfectly normal , but back then it was a rare occurrence. That was the best thing that ever happened to me, even with the community service I had lots of extra time, not having to replace parts on that car over and over again.

1996 Pontiac Grand am SE V6.
Everything squeeked and rattled, the engine knocked from new when cold no one could explain that. Power windows failed and AC failed constantly. Front end parts didn;t seem to last but they were cheap. Last GM product I will ever buy, probably the last car I buy thats not from Germany or Sweden.... Doug |

Worst car I ever owned was a 1959 FIAT 1100 103D. Suicide doors, 4 speed column shift? and lots of other neat hard to fix thingees!!! VERY hard to find parts for in the early 60's, should hace bought a VW!!!!
Next worst was the 73 Dodge Van my Dad had before he passed away. Carb kit or rebuilt carb every 6 months, more starters than I care to remember, lost the complete rope rear main seal, finally trans went. Bought a used one and pulled the pan, put in rubber type seal. Took care of a very bad oil leak!! Finally bought a Dodge Aspen Wagon W/ slant 6. Much better car. Then came the Chevette!!!! All but the Fiat had well over 100,000 on them before they left so couldn't have been to bad I guess!Ray

The WORST ones were, a 1977 Ford Econoline 1 ton Van w/460 engine & a 1984 Ford Bronco II
...the BEST ones were a 1994 Olds Cutlass Ciera (268,000+ miles) & my 1996 Ford F-150 4X4 ...(the wife's 2002 Jeep Liberty is holding it's own, too)

I drive a 1978 Ford F-250 and its treated me extremely well. My dad bought it new, then I got it from him in 2000. I've been driving it since I was 16, im 24 now and not even thinking about getting rid of it. I cant see why the hell I would want to spend $50,000 on a new truck when i got a perfectly good truck made out of good old STEEL instead of @#$)(&*% fiberglass and plastic. Sure it does'nt get the best fuel milage, and does'nt do 120 mph, but who cares. I've treated it well, and its treated me well in return. But back on the subject, I've had friends with mid 90's Chevy pickups with the turbo 400 transmissions, and all 3 friends had there transmissions puke on them, one of them was twice. Im not bashing Chevy, every company has there flaws.

I don't drive a Japanses car and won't ever drive one ( because I can't stand the Japanese not there products ), but so far I haven't heard too many copmplaints.
I did own a Honda CB 400. It was a great bike, but build the finest product on earth and be a jerk and no one will buy from you twice.... Doug |
