Aluminum pistons can be TIG welded. I've got a friend that made pocket money back in the day welding up holes in 2 stroke dirt bike pistons. They are usually an alloy called Lo-ex, low coefficient of expansion. Broken pieces from another piston is the best thing to use for filler. Just don't ever sand blast one. The sand embeds in the surface making thousands of little white hot sources of ignition as it runs.

I covered the top of a cast iron piston in brass. I haven't run it much, but so far no trouble.

Steve,
I have welded cast iron several times with an arc welder. I found that 6013 rod does a very good job.(Im sure other welders on this forum may disagree with my method) But after useing Nirod time after time....CRACK!!! Nirod has a high nickle content and even when preheating, slow cooling,Going by the instructions....Crack...
Good luck with you cushman. Is yours a R-14?.. I just got mine running.

Yup R14
Don't know ware to find parts so I thought it out there and
see what I could find out.
Someone nocked the top out of the piston and I'm notsure
if it's cast Iron or Steel.A file barely scratches it.
