I would like to sugjest a page devoted to Blacksmithing (if thats a word). I think it would fit with all the other pages. what do you think?

me personally think there are to many pages now and can't keep up with them all. there are only two pages I follow and I'm sure I miss alot of things that would be of interest on the other pages.

If Harry doesn't go for it what about linking to another site? Like IForgeIron.com? Maybe a list of links to sites like that. I used to hang out over there and really liked the demos and and live chat night. I just go too many irons in the fire to stop and go hang out much any more.

Hello all,

I'm Larry Cooper and I have been a full time blacksmith for 21 years. I'll help in any way I can.

This is my first post and I just joined yesterday, so I guess my timing is good.

My interest in joining the group was to get information on diesel engines. I want to run my shop off a line shaft, since all my tools were designed to do it that way. I also want to set up a generator to run from a diesel to provide back up power at my home and shop.

Let me know if you have any questions about smithing and I'll see what I can do to confuse you further!

Just to throw a wrench in the works here, the word is "SMITHING"!

Blacksmiths only work iron, preferably wrought iron, and tend to be a PITA when they go true path on ya.

I confess you lost me on that one. Smithing is fascinating and I have done some but have much to learn and limited time.

The "true path" guys are the ones that won't use any technique that was developed after about 1800. While it is an admirable quality in someone who is demonstrating how the craft was done back then, they seem to develope smithing to a religeous furvor, and insist no one else should employ more modern techniques either.

The show in mississippi Mid south Flywheelers needs some help in the blacksmith shop. This is a well stocked shop with three sided protected viewing. This show is 1st weekend in October 25 miles below Memphis. I have too many irons in the fire to cover the smithy full time but will be teaching apprentices and looking for skilled demo/ to come play.
