Default GMC Zenith Carburetor

I have a Zenith carburetor (number 2194114) on my 1949 GMC pickup truck. I have been told that this is really a carb from a 1950 truck, but the repair kit is the same as specified for 1949. I have a rebuild kit for it. However, when I tore it down, it appeared that I would be well advised to replace the power valve and the throttle shaft. Naturally, these parts weren't in the rebuild kit. Does anybody know of a source for these parts.

Thanks,

Frank

When we rebuilt the carb on my 1949 GMC flatbed truck, we had to find another carb to rob parts off of so we could fix my carb, by the way, what model engine do you have, i hope it is not the 228 like mine (you cant get any parts for them) good luck, chris

Zenith is still in business and I would think that any good carb shop could sell you a new or used part. There are carb shops on line that are Zenith dealers. Try a search "Zenith Carburetor"

Default Zenith Carburetors

They are definitely still in business.

Here is a link to their website.

Here is a link to their dealers.

I discovered them when I was looking for carb information for an old updraft model on a WWII IHC deuce and a half truck. I actually spoke with a nice lady there that found the original factory drawings and material lists and she faxed me a copy. I am not sure if they are willing to do this for everyone, but at the very least you ought to be able to find someone that can either find you the part or rebuild it properly.

Be sure to post your experiences here.

The folks at Zenith were extremely helpful. They were able to supply part numbers and then referred me to a distributor that had both of the parts in stock. Thanks for your help everybody.

Chris,

I do have the 228. The parts seem to be available if you kick the bushes a bit. However, I've found that the 228 is incredibly underpowered. Now I understand why most people dump the six for a small block.

More cubic inches would help, that is the smallest engine of the series. The crank, rods, and pistons are unnecessarily heavy for the displacement. Join this club and you can learn how to make it faster
