Anyone have any result on the Clyde Shurman auction on any of the tractors especially the rare 15/30 Titan.

The Titan went for low 90's, I think $92,500, the AT brought $41,000 the 16-30 Rumely brought $26,000 and all of these + several others are going to Belgium now that they belong to Marc. Looks like we can't/won't compete with the European buyers right now!

I think nobody over there except for the Heider and Titan 15-30 really wanted the tractor. Probably everybody is keeping his money for the Schaef sale in a few weeks. The tractors were all in very nice condition.
Does anyone know how many of this style 15-30 Titans were built?

Hello Marc,

According to my serial no. list, the following Titan tractors with L-head engine were built from 1915-17:

TS101 - TS344 in 1915
TS345 - TS883 in 1916
TS884 - TS918 in 1917

The serial no. given on the auction site was 7S783, which I assume should be TS783, dating the tractor to 1916. These tractors were originally rated as 12-25hp, but were re-rated in 1915 as a 15-30. They were redesigned in 1917 with, I would guess, a modified engine and the radiator moved sideways among other things. The tractors were then given the designation "TW" followed by "EC".

Hope this is some help. Maybe someone else with more knowledge can expand on this?

You've got it wrong. People over here want these items, but we do not have enough money to compete at these auctions. And the people that do have the money are the ones selling them and getting more money. It is impossible for someone to get started in this hobby anymore. $90,000, $26,000? For someone like me who is starting a family, buying a house and trying to help with the family farm, it might as well be $1,000,000. I've heard this "People over there (here) must not want it" rubbish before and it is complete crud (trying to keep this post PG.)

That said, I do congradulate you on your items. I have no doubt they will receive a good home. Enjoy .

Frank is correct. I know several guys who were at the auction and just can't compete with the amounts of money being spent by you and your fellow European collectors. Most of my friends can only dream about paying those kinds of prices for tractors such as the Titan, AT and Rumely. Having said that, I can't help but think that there is also a very small minority of collectors in Europe who can afford those prices and most of the collectors can only come to the shows and admire the collections that you and several other prominent collectors have put together.

We do have several collectors with deeper pockets in the USA who will be at the auction on the 22nd of Sep. It should be intersting to see how deep some of the tractors will go if some of the big USA collectors and folks like you and or others from down under and Europe all want the same tractors.

Frank is again correct in stating disappointment on the one hand as rare iron leaves the USA and goes overseas only to drive up the prices of the examples that are left here, and yet understanding that these tractors are going to fine homes where they will be given fine treatment and run at your great shows.

I have to wonder who the 2nd bidders were and from where.......
The number of potential bidders in this country who can afford (and are interested in) those kinds of pieces can be counted on one hand.....as far I know anyway....and as their collections fill out they are out of the market for many other substantial pieces as they already own them.
So who is going to pick up the, for lack of a better word, slack?
With the George Schaaf and Jack Maple sales just around the corner I can only imagine there will again be more record prices.
My jaw dropped as well at the price of the 15-30 International.
The 15-30 IHC is a very nice tractor but it doesn't have the "WOW" factor of the BIG tractors.
I hope the tractors that are going over the pond are going into collections where they will be "played" with instead of becoming static displays.......

I could be wrong, and this is based mostly on what I get from the Internet, so who knows . . .

But it seems like there is a greater overall enthusiasm for pre-1930 tractors in Europe, including 'smaller' units like the 15-30 spoken about here.

For decades, it seemed like the Waterloo Boys were the only small early tractor to command really high prices, and obviously due to its John Deere connection rather than an objective fascination with it as a tractor. Had that been the case, Eagles, Hart-Parrs, small Averys and other similar tractors would have been right up there.

Obviously, everything is relative, and these great old smaller tractors are expensive enough as it is, but I sense a real appreciation for these tractors in Europe that doesn't seem as strong over here.

Again, just my opinion . . .

It does make you feel a little down when you see tractors bring that kind of money, however, like those collectors from Europe, I'd be taking full advantage aswell.

If the Canadian dollar gets any higher, I'd be tempted to make some long distance trips.....

I only meant that like 41.000 for a 22-45 Aultman is cheap, the last one I saw selling remained in the States for over 70.000 $, which is 70% more than my bid. The high Waterloo Boy prices ( up to 135.000 $) were all paid by US buyers.
Also I regret that it becomes impossible for the man in the street to buy such a tractor, but that's life and has nothing to do with Europe or the States.

The nice original Titan 10-20 for 8.000 was defenitely cheap. I saw one selling 4 years ago for over 20.000 that is still in the States and most off them bring around 13.000.

The cub was a one off a kind for only 2.900 $. I never saw another vineyard like this but nobody seems to have mentioned that.

Does anybody know where there are other 15-30 Titans with this radiator left? I only know off titans with the new style radiator.
