Default Shaw N8 Tractor

I picked up this tractor today. It's a Shaw N8. Can anyone tell me what the original engine was? I suspect it may have been a Briggs model 23. Thanks!

Hi Mike, yes the N8 had a Briggs 23 8 HP. I can't tell
by the picture If your gear reduction and clutch have been changed. I could tell by a side shot. The fenders have been added, and the hood removed. I have Info on shaw if you want it and I can make the hood.

later STAN

Hi Stan,
The gear reduction and clutch are intact. At some point a bearing and shaft was added where the original Briggs bolted up to the gearbox. The Wisconsin engine is coupled up to the shaft with some kind of u-joint.
A few years back I had a model N5 Shaw. Looks like this N8 is basically the same tractor. This tractor is so far from original, I don't think I want to try to put it back. I have had thoughts of finding a vintage air-cooled diesel engine of some kind for it. The Wisconsin AEH that is on it now originally was on a Gibson tractor. It still has the remains of the Gibson decal on the gas tank. I was suprised to find that!
