Default Gleaner Baldwin threshing combine with Leroi engine

I did hopper full with the old Gleaner model-F about a 1946 model. Has a Leroi D-176 engine on it, this old combine threshes nice and clean. We did up the rest with 600 case. This machine is in mint shape, a real nice little machine.

This is good Wayne, I hope more people save and use different types of machinery like this. Everyone is hell bent on restoring tractors, but implements need to be saved and used as well, thanks for posting

Nice looking machine, would look better with a little orange power pullin' it, but then maybe I'm just jealous. Klaus

I kiinda thought I shoulda had the U ALIS pulling it but I think this combine is from before ALIS bought Gleaner. I hooked the 9n to it the day before just to move it so we left it hooked on.

I like to see these old machines working. I did a lot of fixing on that old gleaner. It sat abandond for many years out in a cow pasture. The first time I saw it I was on a rig move. (I have been doing that for more than 35 years.) I was trucking along a back road out west of Edmonton and when I saw that combine out of the corner of my eye I knew I had to get it. I went back later in my pickup truck and made a deal with the man. He was going to scap it, but it got saved. I just got a nice little case model 110 that I hope to use also next fall.

Thanks for posting the photos of the old Gleaner, is that 9ft’er or a 12ft machine? We used to run 12ft Gleaners all pull types

I think it is a 12 foot. never mesured it. It has a belt pickup from an old J.D. combine. Straight cutting wasnt used to much in this neck of the woods. Always get late weed growth in the fall so they used to swath most of the grain.

wayne--

I just reclaimed a leroi d176-3 engine from an F model gleaner parts combine that has been sitting in our kansas pasture for the last ~45 yrs. everything is there but the starter. can you tell me what model starter is used on your d176? also, where can I get gaskets for that engine?

many thanks,

pete mueller

Gaskets & parts. Double check as Victor had a head set. Clevite still lists an oil pan set as well as some hard parts such as valves, etc as they interchange with a D-201 Leroi. If you take the head off check the number on the gasket. Also Napa is no longer a vendor for Victor gaskets. If you have trouble finding a vendor send me an e-mail and I will check with my former supervisor on who that might be in your neighborhood.

PN: As to gaskets, if NLA thru regular sources, there's gasketstogo.com, a sponsor here, and olsonsgaskets.com, Port Orchard, WA, highly spoken of in these old engine forums...
Ed Malcom (The LeRoi Man) will probably chime in on the gaskets and starter; he's probably off somewhere enjoying the last of the nice weekends...(Ed: I'm finally getting your name right!)...

john--

many thanks for our response. It would be most helpful if you can ident a gasket source in the cincinnati, ohio area.

I like the old combines. Maybe a couple photos of what you have, I am sure would be greatly appreciated. Nice old M-H by the way. There is a few of them around here but most are in pretty bad condition.

Wayne, sometime before the end of this year I'll try and start a thread about my combine collection and will put on some pictures of it.There are 10-12 pretty serious combine collectors around the country.Jim Esbenshade at Achille,OK has a dandy collection.

I sure would like to find a 1938-40 model #20 Massey-Harris SP combine.

The model 20, probably one of the most unique old combines I have ever seen. There is one in south central Alberta that I know of. The man has quite a few combines including a Case model P?. I have my eye on a very early Massey Harris S-P swather which is pretty well complete. I think it is the first model S-P swather that they came out with but not sure.
