Question Will any Lister SR parts fit an ST?

I finally got my hands on two Lister diesels. Unfortunately one turned out to be an ST2 and the other is an SR2. I want to rebuild the ST, but the cam has been broken right inside the seal on the housing. Will an SR cam fit the ST or for that matter will any of the parts from the SR fit the ST?

Thanks
Jerry

A quick look at the ST and SR parts lists suggests that while things look similar, there are not many compatible parts in there.

Cam followers for example are solid on one engine and rollers on the other and so on.

The other thing to watch out for is that most USA-market Lister air-cooled engines are anticlock rotation compared with European spec engines, so the camshaft would have to be from a USA-spec engine.

Thanks Peter. I found a buddy that wants the SR's and will be rebuilding them this winter. I really never knew what the difference was, but always heard the ST was the better of the two.

It's a later engine, the LR and SR were around just after the great flood....

The early air-cooled Listers were noisy but got a good reputation for reliability as long as they were looked after. The later engines were probably as good but were designed for a market that wasn't interested in lifetime costs, only the initial purchase price.

Default ST vs SR

Peter,

Do you mean the ST engine is the earliest one?

And that SR are cheaper models?

Alfred.

No, the ST is a later engine.

See this listing:

http://www.stationary-engine.co.uk/E...ProdYears1.htm

The ST didn't come in until 1972, the LD/SL and SR were in the 1960's.

Values of engine depend on so many variables, I'd say they were probably about the same in 'potential' value. It all comes down to what folks will pay.
