Default Homemade Tractor Pictures

Here are a few homemade garden tractors I have. Let's see what everybody else has!

First is a 1960's AMF lawn tractor that a neighbor converted into a loader. It uses a jack to lift the boom.

Second is one I picked up a few months ago for free. Uses a Wisconsin AEH that was sold through Montgomery Wards. Has an automotive transmission and rear end that has been narrowed and a v-belt and chain from the engine to the transsmission.

Last is a walk behind that uses a Briggs model Y engine that some modified to use a "H" carb. This one also has a Wards tag. The gearing is a pinion and ring gear from a car starter, and then a chain down to the axle.

Thanks for the pictures Mike. I have tried through the years to collect pictures of homemade tractors and "But Buggies". Have a few stored up. Yours are a welcome addition. The first picture of the little mower with the bucket sure must have been interesting to use !!!
Dave.

I've got a few to show off...
This was a birthday present from my wife, it was a junkyard find. Model A parts, Wisconsin AHH and a 3 speed transmission.
This was build by my Wife's great uncle. 4x4, skid steer powered by a Wisconsin 2 cyl (not in pic)
We got this one this past summer at a show. Briggs 14R6 belted to an old Uni-Drive. It has hydraulics made from a power assist steering system and a cat0 3 pt hitch. I made the little boom pole to go along with it. Forks will be next

Hey Mike,
Did I see that walk behind with the Briggs Y at Ashtabula this past summer?

I thought so! I looked that thing over pretty good. It's a neat tractor. I don't have any homemade garden tractors, but I do have six homemade doodlebug tractors. I love the unique features found on these machines!

OK, I've never heard of a "doodlebug tractor". Perhaps you could enlighten me (us) as to what a doodlebug tractor is. Pictures would also help.

A doodlebug is basically a model T converted for farm use...wheel bases shortened...different axles/gears... tires.... or wheels to get additional traction...other cars were used as well but most of them were model t's..body might be cut off and a bed installed....

Ratman,
Here's one of my doodlebugs. It's a '28 Chevy with a Model T one ton truck rear end made into a roller. It was used on a golf course. Some people also call them "whoopie trucks, jitneys, or hoopties".

Here's an early '30's GMC Doodle Bug I rescued this past fall.

You never know what might be in those old sheds.

It was parked in that shed in 1980, I got it out in the fall of '07, hooked up an outboard gas tank to the carb, filed the points, boosted it with 12 volts, and after minor protest, it started up and ran on all 6!

Added a little water, and took her for a ride!! Not bad for 27 years of slumber.

Jim,
really nice tractor! can you give me some further detail how you realised the clutch/gear/transmission? I don't understand how to change the driving speed with a hit'miss engine. Thanks.
