Default Pioneer chainsaw

I picked up an old Pioneer chainsaw Serial#P63864 today, it's in excellent shape and I was wondering if someone could tell me how old it is, what ratio to mix the gas/oil etc. or point me in the right direction to find the above info. Thanks, Chris O.

I f you have the one that looks very similar to a moder McCullah you should be able to get info from your local small engine shop. I had one, it was yellow and made in the mid 70's. I think it was 30/1 but I cant be sure.

12 ounces of oil to 1 gallon of gasoline, according to the book. These machines weren't built for the new high ratio 2 cycle oils, and can get really screwed up using modern oil to gas ratios. Pioneer is the same as Partner K-12 saws that were on every fire truck in America. If you don't have the old outboard motor oil, use 30 weight NON detergent oil in the same ratio.

Hi Chris,

What model of Pioneer chain saw do you have? If you need some service info I might have some in a manual that I have. I don't have any serial number info so can't help that way.

Hi Bill,

I'm not sure of the model# of the saw, it only has a serial # and I.E.L. cast into the gear case. There are the letters AB cast into various parts. It has a small cylinderical gas tank mounted on top of the saw, not built in like the later models. I appreciate everyones help and responses, Thanks again, Chris O.

Chris,

Must be an older model saw than those in my service manual which dates back to 1980. None of the illustrations shown have the type of gas tank you mentioned. Perhaps someone with a parts list might recognise some of the other info you provided. What size bar does your saw have?

Bill, I'm guessing it must be 40's or 50's vintage. It has a 20 inch football shaped bar, and it is HEAVY! I'm going to try to fire it up tomorrow, see what happens. Thanks again, Chris O.
