Default Kneeland 7hp verticle

I have just restored my 7hp Kneeland verticle engine approx 1910 model. I would like some information on this engine. I know of only one other engine of this type here in Australia. Can anyone help me with the oil level for the sump and the rev speed. Any info would be helpful.

Could you post some pictures of your engine? I have a 6 H.P. Kneeland here in the shop it is missing all the small pieces. Some of it I can figure out from a couple repro. catalogs but dont have any good views of the govener system. I have been looking for info. for over a year and no one seems to know of another Kneelands here in the U.S.. If there is something I can help you with let me know. Keven

Thanks for the quick reply Keven, I will post some photos of my engine as soon as I figure out how to. We have a computer wiz staying with us over Christmas, so will get him to help with this.

Phillip:

What I see of the governor appears to me to be an unusual way for the weights to move the collar over. Do the "tangs" (for the lack of a better word) on the weights simply wedge the collar toward the crankpin?

Take care - Elden

Phillip, Thanks a bunch for the photos. How the govener works make a lot more sense. Our engine is Identicle to yours so it is probably also a 7 H.P. Could you possibly get a picture of the fuel pump and the magneto Im sure this engine uses a timer. I will look in the books and see if there is any info. on the oil level. There was a person that had a 2 cycle Kneeland in Washington state that is the only other engine I have located over here. Thanks Keven

Elden, there is only one wedge shaped 'tang' when the weight is thrown out it pushes the collar toward the crank

Keven, I was told it didn't have a magneto originally. It was converted when it came to Australia for convenience. I have yet to make the cooling tower and restore the original oiler.

Phillip, Nice looking engine, and with the pictures and with some one that has one we will have a good chance to get ours running.
I co own with Keven Withers a Crane & Ordway which is a Kneeland like yours,
it is missing ALL the small parts so the pictures will be helpful in getting it up and running.
I do have a Kneeland catalog it gives the normal speed at 350-400 rpm,it doesn't give a specific oil level in the crankcase it just says " Oil in the crankcase oils lower end. The tube passing thru the oil keeps the bearings well lubricated' It must have some type of dipper on the end of the rod.
Hope this will be of some help.

Jim & Keven, I am showing my Kneeland at a rally in a few weeks, have made the cooling tower and am now finishing off the transport. Do you know if there was any pin striping on this engine? Also is there any info you could give me for my display sign for the rally.

Kevin, is there a "Year/date" in your Kneeland manual? Also, is the "Kneeland Separator Engine" included in it?
Thanks!
